Bio
My name is Carolyn Fulton (she/her) and I am a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder.
As a researcher, I seek to establish mathematical toolsets to improve understanding and discover relationships within complex biological systems. My aim is to provide real world impact by translating such findings towards more robust medical practices and policies. My some of my areas of interest include epidemiology, circadian rhythms, neuroscience, genomics, cancer biology and cardiology through the lenses of personalized medicine, public health, and medical device/treatment optimization. I particularly enjoy utilizing mathematics from dynamical systems and probability/statistics to approach these problems.
I earned my Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado Boulder in December of 2024. I had the opportunity to serve as President of the Association for Women in Mathematics Chapter for the 2023-2024 academic year. In May of 2022, I earned my Bachelor of Science with Honors in Mathematics (minor in Biology) from Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. I played NCAA DIII softball all four years during which I was nominated team captain for the 2020-2021 season and received NFCA Academic All-American awards. Additionally, I spent the Fall 2021 semester in the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program as the first student from Schreiner University to ever do so.
Outside academics I enjoy watching and playing sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, and slow pitch softball. I love to get outside and go hiking, snowboarding, and swimming. I also like to cook and explore international fare.
